East Village | invention | A widely panned attempt to rebrand the community of Hastings-Sunrise. The switch to East Village was indicative of Vancouver’s general tendency to craft civic identities based on other cities (in this case New York). This practice goes as far back as the renaming of 9th Avenue to Broadway.

Usage: “Listen, we can’t be friends any more if you tell me one more time that you live in the East Village.”
