Baker | Place | Colloquial reference to Mount Baker, an ominous-looking, 10,781 ft high stratovolcano in Washington State that is clearly visible on Vancouver’s southeast horizon. It produced several eruptions in the 1800s and last threatened doom in 1975. Its innards are the second-most thermally active in the entire Cascade Range; the first being Mount St. Helens, which exploded catastrophically in 1980. Though there would likely be little to no immediate impact to life and limb in Vancouver when Baker does eventually erupt, it’s possible that parts of the Lower Mainland will be blanketed with ash
