Russell Leng’s ‘Folded Map’ Series, Showing Now At FIELD Contemporary

Russell2
Russell Leng is a man of many artistic talents. For proof of this, check out his current exhibition, Too Many Maps, on view at FIELD Contemporary until July 4th. Russell’s eloquent exploration of surface, material, and texture are clear through the works he’s produced for this show, and will leave you with a satisfied eyeful.

His Folded Map (1,2,3,4) series consists of four separate 11”x14” canvases, each with its own dynamic sense of excitement. Drawing on the exhibition’s name and how Russell talks about his work, when I look at these pieces I can’t help but feel a tingle of the sensation that comes right before I set out on the open road. Combining the abstracted form of a folding map with strong moving lines and a pinch of celebratory confetti, the works would make for good vibes in an entry hallway.

Too Many Maps is opening Thursday, June 4th from 7pm to 10pm at FIELD Contemporary located at 17 West Broadway. Russell will be in attendance, so be sure to pen it in your calendar.
