Indulge Your Appetite for Food and Folklore at Enabling Arts on October 30th

We love it when passion for food and books come together. Which is why we’re stoked for the next meeting of the Eat Your Book Club at Enabling Arts on October 30th.

Each month, the Railtown neighbourhood bookstore-slash-community-space hosts Chef Abraham Wong to lead a two-hour-long discussion on a specially selected, especially flavourful title – from culinary memoir to food-focussed fiction – with special attention give to titles by female and BIPOC writers. This time around, it’s Annapurna’s Bounty: Indian Food Legends Retold (Dundurn Press) by Montreal-based author Veena Gokhale. Gokhale’s book, named after the Indian Goddess of Nourishment, features a collection of ten modernized, food-related folklore from India, along with as many companion vegetarian recipes inspired by its characters. Sounds delicious!

The aim of the Eat Your Book Club, according to Enabling Arts is to go beyond dry analysis, to “savor the way stories about food reveal who we are, where we come from, and how food connects us across time and place.” So, basically, if you love indulging in good food stories and having in-depth, complex conversations about food as much as you love simply eating it, then this is your opportunity to do just that while also connecting with fellow curious thinkers, readers and revellers, and making new discoveries about Indian food legends.

It all goes down at the 104-343 Railway Street space on Thursday, October 30th, from 6pm to 8pm. General admission is $11.50; or you can spring the extra cash to hook yourself up with a copy of Annapurna’s Bounty at a discount ($29.99 total). Whichever you decide, do it quickly since spots are filling up fast! Additional details and tickets for the October 30th Eat Your Book Club can be found here.
