Sarah Fougere Set To Paint 50 Portraits Of Vancouverites In Just 15 Days

IMG_8473

The lovely and very talented Sarah Fougere is back in town, challenging herself to paint another 50 portraits in 15 days from August 22nd to September 7th at Black & Yellow Gallery. Fougere did more than 50 last year. A wide cross section of Vancouverites signed up to sit for her, including former Vancouver Mayor Sam Sullivan and Lululemon Founder Chip Wilson. She paid us a visit in the Scout office yesterday and painted Michelle on a 12″ x 12″ wooden frame in about two hours.

The cost is just $275 for one person or $375 for two or more sitters. Warning: don’t dilly dally. If you want to get your portrait done, pounce on the opportunity immediately by signing up for a sitting.

The opening reception for Portrait in Residence II with Sarah Fougere: 50 Portraits in 15 Days – presented by Black & Yellow / Back Gallery Project at 602 East Hastings – takes place from 7pm to 11pm on Aug. 22nd with the closing reception (to view all of the completed portraits) going down from 7pm to 11pm on Sept. 7th.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Couple

Sarah Holtom / Fougere is an accomplished plein air painter. Her project, entitled “100 Portraits of Calgary Artists” was completed after her graduating year from the Alberta College of Art and Design with funding from the Alberta Foundation for the Arts and subsequently added to the Glenbow Museum’s permanent collection. Since then she has spent time in both New York City and small town Saskatchewan, where she successfully co-ran the “National Gallery of Saskatchewan” for two years, contributed work to several nationally touring shows and instructed art lessons out of the Godfrey Dean Gallery. It was during this time that she created and stared in a TV show airing on Access 7 called “The Painting from Life with Sarah Holtom Show!”; graciously funded by the Saskatchewan Arts Board.
