Get Your Weave On at Workshops Led by Local Artist Amanda Wood

If January is already slipping through your fingers along with your pseudo-resolutions, don’t fret! The year is only in its preliminary phase and there’s still the opportunity to quite literally pick up the threads by enrolling in a weaving workshop, beginning this February. Local artist and professional weaver Amanda Wood is hosting round two of 2019’s Weaving 101 workshop, kicking off on February 6th until 20th. Sessions are weekly (every Wednesday) from 6:30pm to 8:30pm at the Silk Weaving Studio on Granville Island. Absolutely no experience is necessary and some of the supplies are included in the $195 fee. Students can expect to learn the basics from set up to finishing, and also explore a bunch of different textures while creating their own, personalized sampler. All of this is done utilizing some seriously luxurious silk yarns, imported by Sanjo Silk, which is owned by the Studio’s owner, Diana Sanderson, and local long time weaver, Jo Skinner. Here’s a bit more about what to expect, from Wood herself:

“It’s one of my favourite classes to teach because I bring in samples and support students based on individual interests. I even had one student figure out how to weave little pockets to place stones. One of my former students is making her own tiny looms using the laser cutter at Makerlabs. It’s really a great way to see what our imaginations can get up to.”
