by Andrew Morrison | We took a look at the coming of The Parkside Brewery a few weeks before Christmas 2015, six months after owners Sam Payne and Vern Lambourne took possession of the 6,000 sqft building that will house it out in Port Moody. They’re on track to open the brewery and 90 seat tasting room – complete with tasting benches, 8 growler filling taps, retail/merch set-up, and food truck in the parking lot – in the second week of June (they’re saying “June 8th…ish”). While they still have finishing touches to do (“plumbing, construction, equipment install, painting, licensing and cleaning” — no big deal), they nevertheless cemented their opening day line-up of core beers as follows:
Parkside Dawn Pilsner 4.9% | “a refreshing and sessionable that pays homage to traditional German style with sublime balance between malt and hop”
Parkside Dusk Pale Ale 5.3% | “a relaxed West Coast Pale Ale with an emphasis on hop flavour rather than bitterness. Subtle malt combined with hop atomatics create a highly satisfying pale ale for any occasion.”
Parkside Graffiti I.P.A 6.9% | “a true to style Pacific Northwest I.P.A that is brimming with grapefruit, light pine and floral hop notes with a bold yet balanced bitterness”
Come opening day, they’re also be pouring their inaugural Seasonal Release – a white ISA – as well as exclusive one-off brews and daily cask offerings. You’ll be able to try The Parkside’s beers prior to opening at Vancouver Craft Beer Week events and Bikers For Autism “Shuck it Forward” event at Chewies in Coal Harbour on May 29th. Sam recently sent over some update shots and graphics, which we’ve arranged in the gallery below. Dig the can designs by Devon Byerley and Kris Kupskay (who also did the same piece on top of the brewery’s canning line).
