Dani might be spending a lot more time in Baja than YVR these days, but she can still point us in the direction of deliciousness...

Danielle Tatarin Does ‘The Dishes’

The Dishes is a repeating Scout column that asks Vancouverites to walk us through a map of their ideal day and night on the town. We’re talking breakfast, lunch, happy hour, dinner and late night cocktails. Tax and tip included.

While acclaimed Vancouver bartender Danielle Tatarin has been spending most of her days of late in Baja running her own distilling and consulting business, she still finds her way back to the city enough to make us curious about the spots she just can’t miss when she’s back in town…

Good morning! What’s for breakfast/brunch?

Roundel Cafe for an Avocado Benedict! Roundel Cafe was my go to breakfast spot when I lived in the area, so any time I’m back in Vancouver I need my fix of that Avocado Benny!

Roundel Cafe 2465 E Hastings St. MAP

Where should we meet for coffee/tea?

Cadeaux Bakery for a lavender latte and delicious pastry or cake. I love anything lavender and Eleanor is a genius when it comes to sweets, cakes and treats. I’m usually in there at least once while I’m in town to get my Lavender Latte with a side of London Fog Cake.

Cadeaux Bakery 172 Powell St. MAP

Now we’re hungry again. What’s for lunch?

Pazzo Chow or Harvest on Union for noodles! Usually when I’m in town I spend a lot of time around Chinatown and the east side, so Pazzo Chow is where I can grab something quick and delicious. I have not had a trip back to Vancouver where I haven’t eaten at each Pazzo Chow or Harvest at least once. Definitely my go to lunch places when I’m in Van.

Who has you figured out at Happy Hour?

Tableau Bistro! Chef Jonathan is one of my closest friends in Vancouver and I can’t pass up experiencing anything that he creates. Pair it with happy hour and I’m super happy!

What’s for dinner?

Bao Bei for Shan Tofu & Sticky Rice! I definitely am a creature of habit. I can’t visit Vancouver without eating at Bao Bei at least once and Shan Tofu and Sticky Rice are my go to dishes that I crave.

Bao Bei Chinese Brasserie 163 Keefer St. MAP

What’s for dessert?

La Casa Gelato! So many flavours to choose. I’m a huge fan of gelato. I love perusing the unique flavours here. Usually it’s a nice bike ride in East Van with a stop for gelato… I think Taro and Green tea combo is niiice.

Where are you taking us for late night cocktails?

Prohibition & The Keefer Bar. Obvs I spend a lot of time at the Keefer Bar, I am biased; I just love the room, vibe and cocktails. It’s fun to now be a guest at the bar and just watch and taste the magic. I love the modern elegance of Prohibition. Paired with two of my good friends Robyn Gray and Brad Stanton behind the bar makes it a must stop when I’m in Van.
