Coq, The | colloquialism, pronounced “coke” | The especially dangerous 186 km stretch of Highway 5 between Hope and Kamloops. With a speed limit of 120 km/h in sections and a width that varies between four and six lanes, it’s undeniably a fast route north/east and back, but there are hundreds of accidents on it each winter, making its passage at times something of a nail-biting leap of faith. So named after the Coquihalla River and the Coquihalla Pass.
Usage: “I was planning on heading up to the cabin for the weekend but there’s no way in hell I’m going to risk driving The Coq in this weather…”
