The Dishes asks Vancouverites to walk us through a map of their ideal day and night on the town. We’re talking breakfast, lunch, happy hour, dinner and late night cocktails. Tax and tip included.
For our latest edition of The Dishes we ask Brian Grant, co-founder of Resurrection Spirits, to take us on a personal culinary tour of Vancouver…
Good morning! What’s for breakfast/brunch?
Barney’s on Main Street. Great bennies and 24 beers on draft.
Where should we meet for coffee/tea?
I don’t drink coffee, but Matchstick has the only muffin I will eat (Cranberry/ Orange). It’s awesome. Also I went to O5 Tea in Kits recently and it was really beautiful inside. Tea was great, too.
Now we’re hungry again. What’s for lunch?
Brian’s Cambie Vietnamese restaurant on Main Street. That’s actually the name. Great value. Pho and bahn mi. Just awesome, my brother! Go and you will know. DL Chicken is a must, too. The smoked jalapeño honey mustard sauce is other -worldly. I put that shit on everything.
Who has you figured out at Happy Hour?
Fanny Bay Oyster Bar. Great drinks and tasty seafood!
Whose wine list never lets you down?
Chambar. Knowledgeable staff will always steer you in a great direction.
What’s for dinner?
Trans Am on Powell St. is a great hidden gem (burger to die for). Also Pink Pearl on East Hastings. It’s a Vancouver icon and I have loved it since I was a kid. I love everything, but the crispy noodle chow mien and sweet and sour fish are alway perfect.
What’s for dessert?
I love ice cream. Earnest and La Casa Gelato are my go to’s. I also recently had a Beta 5 cream puff. It was a work or art!
Where are you taking us for late night cocktails?
Keefer Bar, The Diamond — Gastown bars have all sorts of different styles but are all great in their own right.
