The Dishes is a repeating Scout column that asks Vancouverites to walk us through a map of their ideal day and night on the town. We’re talking breakfast, lunch, happy hour, dinner and late night cocktails. Tax and tip included
Today for The Dishes we ask Pourhouse Bar Manager Adam Domet to take us on a tour of his favourite spots to dine and drink around town (portrait image by Chris Giannakos)…
Good morning! What’s for breakfast/brunch?
For brunch I like to keep it close to home in Kits, so I frequent Au Comptoir. Start to finish it’s always great, cappuccino, mimosa, croque madame, lemon tart for dessert, trying to speak French. It’s a nice time.
Where should we meet for coffee/tea?
I’ve most likely made my way to Gastown so I’ll stop in to Di Beppe for an espresso. The staff is always pleasant and they know how I like my coffee. It’s turning into a neighbourhood industry hub in the day time. You can usually catch up with a few friends. Great to see that space being put to good use.
Now we’re hungry again. What’s for lunch?
Let’s go to Tacofino, chicken tacos, pork gringa, nachos, Herradura Margaritas. Those guys work real hard and are blowing up. Their new location just opened in Mt. Pleasant.. great cocktails!
Who has you figured out at Happy Hour?
I don’t get to hit a lot of happy hours as I’m usually working at that time. So I’ll say that Pourhouse has it figured out. Half price Pourhouse burger, $5 draught, $8 wine, $8 cocktail…shameless plug I know, but it’s the one I spend the most time at. I stand behind it.
What’s for dinner?
I don’t make it there as often as I’d like to, but Wesley Young and team at Pidgin is putting out some really delicious food — their Korean rice cake for example. Front of house team is dialled too, some real good pros.
What’s for dessert?
I don’t really have a sweet tooth all that much…so maybe some sherry at Sardine Can.
Where are you taking us for late night cocktails?
I’d head to The Diamond for a Sazerac. The Diamond always has special place in my heart, Leticia’s warmth and welcoming smile is one of the best things about eating and drinking in Gastown. Which is obviously where I spend most of my time.
