Gastown’s Beloved Shebeen To Host The Whiskey Wisemen Society On January 15

The GOODS from Shebeen

Vancouver, BC | When we go out for drinks, either to take the edge off a long workday or share in a celebration with friends, the word charity usually doesn’t come to mind. Rather than making a donation to a good cause, money disappears out of our wallets as fast as the last drop of that cocktail gets gulped.

A local not-for-profit organization called the Whisky Wisemen Society have paired up with Shebeen Whisk(e)y House to try and change that. Since January of 2013, this inspiring community of aspiring change-makers has been promoting modern-day chivalry while raising money for a local cause, by hosting monthly #socialwhisky events on at the much-loved whisky watering hole.

On the third Thursday (#thirdthursday) of every month, kicking off at 7:00 pm at Shebeen, every guest’s first glass of whisky is on the house, sponsored by Glenmorangie. For each drink thereafter, 10 percent of the sales are donated to a Vancouver-based charity. So far, the event has drawn like-minded young professionals who are socially conscious, looking to meet up with friends and also make new connections. Since its launch, the event has been drawing increasingly bigger crowds and raised over $5000 for charity.

The philanthropy doesn’t stop here as the #thirdthursday events are not the only charity initiative started by The Whisky Wisemen. The Society has also created their very own signature ‘cocktail for a cause’. The Wiseman™ cocktail, a modern twist on the classic old fashioned, was launched in April 2014, with $1 from every drink sold also going towards a local charity. Currently you can find the cocktail on the menus at Shebeen, The Irish Heather, One Under Urban Golf Club, The Wicklow Pub and The Queens Cross Pub in North Vancouver. The Whisky Wisemen hope that other fine Vancouver bars and restaurants will include the cocktail on their menus for a good cause, and it’s offered as an option to any establishment that’s interested.

The next event takes place this Thursday January 15, 2015 – where the Whisky Wisemen will donate $3000 raised to Project True, a local non-for-profit organization working to make recovery from disordered eating available for everyone.

Home to one of BC’s largest selection of Single Malt, Bourbon, Rye, Scotch and Irish whisky, the Shebeen Whisk(e)y House houses just under 200 different labels and is a must see for whisky lovers.
