The Global Commission on Drug Policy has released a pretty darn damning report that says the “War On Drugs” has failed (despite it being occasionally hilarious). The 19-member panel included former leaders of major drug war front-line states like Mexico and Colombia, as well as global bigwig pragmatists like former UN Secretary General Kofi Annan and billionaire Sir Richard Branson. As if on cue, the governments of the USA and Mexico called the findings “misguided”, probably because the status quo is clearly working out so well. The report comes on the heels of the re-election of Stephen Harper, who got so high at the victory party that he still plans on moving forward with legislation that will bring in longer sentences for drug crimes (including for the possession of just a couple of pot plants at home). Why? Because if it ain’t fixed, break it some more!
As if on cue, Scout Magazine called the effort “misguided”.
The “original” effort in the Netherlands and France are being dismantled. Why? Google virtual magazine, Google away….
Oh, Thomas. An assemblage of backwards-thinking, far-right politicians in The Netherlands committing tourism suicide in order to get their names in the paper is your counter-argument? Whatever they enact will eventually be rescinded. You, on the other hand, might remain a silly person.
Why would anyone who is a regular blunt burner want drug use legalised? Do they want the sale and manufacture of weed handled by an arm of the government much like the BCLDB?
Do they want BCGEU members working the grow ops and stores? Let’s leave it in the capable non union hands of the Hell’s Angels and their associates. I am at least half serious here.
“You, on the other hand, might remain a silly person.”
Had to make it personal. Stay classy, Andrew.
Sorry about that, Thomas. Before I responded I went over your several dozen comments on Scout from over the years and was reminded of how 90% were troll-like in their reactionary silliness. It’s not personal or a question of class. It was suddenly tiresome is all.
Apology accepted.
