You Should Know About the Upcoming Mount Pleasant Heritage Walking Tour

History enthusiasts and active Vancouver citizens should take note that on Sunday, August 18th, the Heritage Vancouver Society is hosting a special walking tour of Mount Pleasant, led by local historical researcher, writer, photographer, blogger and Scout contributor Christine Hagemoen.

During the 2-hour-long (10:30am to 12:30pm) guided morning stroll, Hagemoen will be narrating the rich history and significance of one of Vancouver’s original neighbourhoods, in particular the area once known as the “Heritage Heart” of the city.

For those who are interested in the preservation of our city’s valuable – and dwindling – historical assets, and the future of the popular Main Street vicinity, she’ll also be touching on some current concerns surrounding the City of Vancouver’s prospective ‘Broadway Plan’. A portion of the tour will be spent discussing the City’s public transportation proposition, including the potential ramifications for what remains of Mount Pleasant’s heritage and mid-century architecture and its mixture of largely independent retail and restaurant businesses, residential buildings, artists studios and cultural spaces that make this ‘hood so special.

The tour winds down with a Q&A period and an (optional but much-warranted) stop at a nearby brewery. Tickets are $15 per person, not including the post-walk beers. For more information and to get tickets head over here.
