We’re a pretty satisfied bunch, but that doesn’t mean we aren’t covetous. Sometimes we see things out there that we just must have. Cool Things We Want is an archive of those earthly desires.
Throwback to the pre-Instagram days: disposable cameras were the method de rigueur for documenting summer vacations because they were cheap, lightweight and readily available at any drug store, gas station or canteen. Hell, even McDonald’s had their own “Say Cheeseburger” ones on the menu during the mid-90s! And you didn’t need to be precious with these single-use contraptions while roughing it out camping or road-tripping.
We want to revisit our analog roots by commemorating the summer of 2019 with some limited edition, artist-designed cameras by EEEEEEEEEE Disposable Cameras. The current Holiday Pack series (pictured above) includes three different colourfully-encased and fully functional cameras designed by LA’s Clay Hickson, Japanese illustrator Yoko Honda and Berlin’s ZEBU artist duo. The trio rings in at €55 (plus €13.75 for shipping to Canada).
Although the beautifully designed cases might inspire a bit more conscientious handling than the no-frills classic, they still include all of the perks, novelty, mystery and anticipation (one of the best parts of the medium came at the end of summer when you picked up your developed film, then revisited your summer vacation memories via the usually questionable results…), plus a bonus artwork to keep as souvenir. The downside: these days the cost of developing your haphazard photo memories comes at a hugely inflated price. We’d be willing to pay it just this once.
