We Want This Waterproof, Greaseproof, Powdered Limestone Notebook Designed For Chefs

We’re a pretty satisfied bunch, but that doesn’t mean we aren’t covetous. Sometimes we see things out there that we just must have. Cool Things We Want is an archive of those earthly desires.

The STONE notebook, constructed with pages made of powdered limestone, is kind of brilliant, and we want one (or two). They have just one day left on their Kickstarter campaign that saw them looking for just under $28,000 in funding. Unsurprisingly, they had no trouble achieving that, and are sitting pretty with over $215,000. Take a look:

Created by the industry, for the industry, the Stone mixes modern technology with classic design. A notebook that’s durable enough to meet the demands of the toughest kitchen but doesn’t compromise on style. From its waterproof stone paper through to its lay-flat design, every feature has been tweaked to maximise practicality, creativity and sustainability.

THE IDEA | The team behind Stone have worked collectively in dozens of restaurants around the world and it always seemed strange to us that while chefs take so much pride in their tools, whether it be their knife set, cast iron pans or apron, their notebook would always lie close by in a state of decay. The notebook is a place where dishes are first born, but until now, no one has made a notebook that could withstand the heat and pressure of a professional kitchen.

So using our collective experience, that stretches from kitchens to product development, we set out to make a notebook that was not only beautiful, designed to sit proudly amongst the best kitchen products, but be the most practical and sustainable tool possible.

STONE PAPER | Stone paper lies at the heart of the Stone notebook. Offcuts taken from limestone quarries, that would otherwise go to waste, are churned up to a fine powder and turned into paper. The result is a material that’s resistant to water and grease. Butter, wine and oil can simply be wiped off with no stain left on the pages or smudging of the ink, making it a paper born to survive the kitchen. Together with the vegan leather cover, it makes the Stone notebook the world’s most durable notebook.
