Vancouver Would Be Cooler If More of Its Restaurants Had Lazy Susans

Vancouver Would Be Cooler If is a column that advocates for things that exist in other cities that could serve to improve or otherwise celebrate life in our own.

With so many Vancouver restaurants now offering share plates and boasting of “family-style” dining it’s not a little surprising that Lazy Susans aren’t more common. If you’re unfamiliar (I doubt this), a Lazy Susan is a simple, table-on-table device that can be spun with a light touch so as to make every dish accessible to every diner at the table. Though unnecessary for smaller parties that have every dish within reach, for groups of five or more they’re ideal. There are countless tutorials on the internet for anyone interested in building one, and it looks like options for materials and surfaces abound. Keep in mind acquiescing restaurateurs wouldn’t need to retrofit their entire dining rooms — just their biggest round tables. Does your restaurant only have rectangular tables? Hold my beer. If you’re handy, this might prove a lucrative side hustle!

Vancouver Would Be Cooler If We Had More Safe Indoor Spaces for Skateboarding

Its vaulted ceilings may have once carried the tenors and altos of Catholic choirboys, but nowadays the acoustics of the abandoned St. Liborius Church have been repurposed to carry the screeches and echoes characteristic of a DIY Skatepark. We think Vancouver would be cooler if we had an all-inclusive indoor community skatepark of our own...

Vancouver Would Be Cooler If It Had a Massive Floating Housing Project at the Port

Imagine a colourful, mixed-used, housing complex like Amsterdam's Silodam floating at the foot of Victoria Drive.
