The point of VWBCI is to open local minds to outside practices, concepts, and ideas that might stand to improve our greater civic situation in a parallel universe where coolness was valued more than practicality and funds spent on public works of art were raised by way of a special NIMBY tax levied against rich, self-absorbed assholes.

(via) We’ve got it pretty good with parks in Vancouver, but that doesn’t mean we can’t improve on an already swell situation. The “Parkorman” sky park envisioned for Istanbul  – an ancient city short on green spaces – includes a playground suspended in the tree canopy high above the ground with pathways, hammocks and – yes – even a massive trampoline. The designers of it, Studio Dror, also imagine a boxed water feature underneath it all with water cascading down its sides (visitors can stand inside this so-called “Fountain of Clarity”, which might prove magical if you could ever have it to yourself).

“Our masterplan for Parkorman is a web of possibilities; a living system of places for visitors to explore. Instead of dictating one’s path through the park, visitors write their own experience. Numerous non-linear pathways, like calligraphy, weave through the existing woodland, surprising people with unexpected discoveries along their journey.”

Alas, it’s just a dream. We doubt ground will ever be broken for it in Istanbul. But doesn’t that mean it’s up for grabs? Your move, Vancouver Board of Parks and Recreation…
