SoMa | Myth | Much like the East Village and Crosstown, SoMa – short for South Main – is another fictional neighbourhood. It was an embarrassing attempt by real estate marketers to rebrand Mount Pleasant, which already had a great name. The irony of it is that the area they were trying to exploit wasn’t even the southern strip of Main Street (80% of its length is to the south of “SoMa”), which just goes to show you how desperate some people are to give Vancouver the unearned cultured patina of other so-called “world class” cities so they can make a buck.
Usage: “The people who decided to starting calling Mount Pleasant ‘SoMa’ are probably assholes…”
