Bin | Restaurant | Short for Bin 941 or Bin 942 (latter closed in 2011); two ground-breaking, garishly-designed, wine-forward, and hugely important small plates restaurants launched by chef/restaurateur Gord Martin at the end of the 20th century. Bin 941, located on Davie off Burrard, was a critical darling, spearheading the tapas trend and enjoying tremendous popularity for a full decade before beginning to lose its lustre in the mid 2000’s. The impact that these restaurants nevertheless had on Vancouver’s restaurant scene during its heyday was massive, and is still being felt since many of the eatery’s former employees and apprentices went on to open restaurants of their own (eg. Espana, The Fat Badger, Lolita’s, Go Fish!, The Acorn).
Usage | “I went to Bin for the first time in years last night. Yikes…”
