This Summer’s Best Long Table Feasts

There are a lot of beautiful dining rooms in Vancouver, but this time of year none can compete with our province’s many naturally spectacular outdoor settings. From long table dinners to more casual al fresco events, we’ve compiled a list of seven memorable opportunities to enjoy eating outside this summer. Let’s all go to the farm!

Got dinner plans on July 20th? You do now. Check this out: Bowen Island’s beautiful Home Farm will be hosting one of Vancouver’s best Mexican eateries, La Mezcaleria, that evening for their first ever long table dinner. Tickets can be purchased here . We’ll see you there!

Sat, July 20 | 4pm | Home Farm | $125 1461 Mt. Gardner Rd. MAP

School may be out for the summer, but on July 25th David Thompson Secondary will be attracting a different crowd for the annual Schoolyard Harvest Dinner. Hosted by the local food education non-profit, Fresh Roots, this multi-course feast features ingredients grown and plucked from its very own schoolyard setting, plus an open bar! All proceeds from ticket sales directly benefit Fresh Roots’ awesome initiatives and can be purchased here.

Thu, July 25 | 5:30 - 9:30pm | David Thompson Secondary School | $155 1755 East 55th Ave. MAP

Like alliteration? Then you’ll love this: On July 21st the Fraser Common Farm is hosting Big Day BBQ for an afternoon of “food, fun, and frolic” on the farm. What that translates to is plenty of good ol’ fashioned twang, games, a farm tour, complimentary booze and ginger beer, heaps of meat and a delicious pie whipped up by the ladies at The Pie Shoppe. Hook yourselves up here.

Sun, July 21 | 3 - 7pm | Fraser Common Farm | $90 1322 256 St., Aldergrove MAP

If you feel like vegging out, plan a trip to the Fraser Farm on August 18th. Burdock & Co. chef Andrea Carlson has enlisted a handful of her producer friends for a plant-based dinner “in the country” to celebrate the local veggie-loving community. The meal is preceded by a live musical performance and an appetite-stimulating guided walk through the farm’s fields. Get a seat at this wholesome table here.

Sun, Aug. 18 | 4 - 8pm | Fraser Common Farm | $125 1322 256 St., Aldergrove MAP

Also on Sunday, August 18th: food and wine aficionados will be flocking to Pemberton’s North Arm Farm for the return of Araxi Restaurant + Oyster Bar’s amazing Longtable Dinner Series. Mount Currie serves as the backdrop for this epic four-course meal. Keep careful watch on their event page (here) for the official announcement and all of the delicious details.

Sun, Aug. 18 | 3pm | North Arm Farm | $TBA 1888 Sea to Sky Highway 99 MAP

Score some tickets to the 25th annual Feast of Fields events before they’re all gone. On September 8th, Farm Folk City Folk will present their super delicious annual fundraising event out at Rabbit River Farms in Richmond. The four-hour-long day of grazing, meandering and mingling with local producers is always seriously good times. Plus the money raised goes to Farm Folk City Folk and their continued efforts to connect local farmers and food producers with local chefs, which is good for everyone!

Sun, Sept. 8 | 1 - 5pm | Rabbit River Farms | $99 17740 River Rd., Richmond, BC MAP

Here’s one for the sunshine and wine-lovers: Swallow Tail‘s next secret supper event is a five course white- and rose-wine paired long table dinner created in Chef Robin’s own kitchen. The menu for this chic al fresco meal under the sun include a “bouquet” of flavours that “taste like summer.” The Summer Rose Dinner is happening on Saturday, August 10th from 6 – 9:30pm. Dig out your biggest straw hat and sign up here to get all of the location details.
