Words & Photos by Claudia Chan & Rommy Ghaly | We wined and dined with our stomachs wide open this past Sunday afternoon at the annual Metro Vancouver edition of Feast of Fields. Organised by Farm Folk City Folk (a non-profit that seeks to cultivate community through engaging experiences around local food and sustainability), it is well established as one of the region’s premiere culinary events of the year. The goal of FoF is to encourage more city-to-farm connections by bringing urbanites out to meet their local food producers. And that we did with white linen napkins in our left hands and wine glasses in our right hands, cruising through lovely host farm Golden Ears Cheesecrafters out in Maple Ridge and enjoying some of BC’s finest food and drink.
We weren’t the only ones there, of course. Around a thousand other enthusiastic foodies had gathered at the sold out event, all grazing and sipping from the 30 or so local purveyors who had arranged themselves and their tasty wares about the farm. Among these were chefs, farmers, fishers, ranchers, food artisans, vintners, brewers and distillers from local exemplars like Wild Rice, Forage, Cru, Cocolico, Seasonal 56, R&B Brewing, and Blasted Church (not to mention our awesome, cheese-crafting hosts).
If you missed out, it’s not too late to experience Feast of Fields before the end of the harvest season. The final one of 2012 is set to take place this September 16th on the Island out at the beautiful Alderlea Farm & Café (near Duncan). Grab your tickets here before they sell out!
