Ready Your Stomachs: The Inaugural ‘Hoagie Half’ is Happening on Sept. 6th

Ready to run (not sing) for your supper? On Saturday, September 6th, the Hoagie Half 21K half-marathon is coming to Vancouver for a fun, sweaty and delicious rip around four of East Vancouver’s most popular sandwich spots. And the time to sign up is now.

To join in on this community “run-meets-sandwich-party”, rustle up three of your fastest and hungriest friends to compete against other teams of four in a relay-style race. The Hoagie Half kicks off at Container Brewing at 2pm (registration is at 1:30pm), with participants taking turns running to four Vancouver-famous sandwich spots – Meat & Bread, Say Hey Café, Juke Fried Chicken, and Vennie’s Sub Shop – in staggered heats. (The first person runs to one restaurant to grab their special Half Hoagie collab sandwich, before racing back to Container, chowing down, and then ‘passing the baton’ with a high-five to their next teammate, who will repeat the same process at a different restaurant – and so on.)

The race winds down back at the brewery at 5pm, where a fresh beer and party vibes (think DJs, more sandwiches and drinks for purchase, awards, and schwag) await all of the participants until 9pm. Although Early Bird tickets have already all been scooped up, General Admission tickets are now available! The cost of entry whittles down to $71.28 per person and, in addition to the aforementioned beer, Half Hoagie sandwich, and ticket to the post-run festivities, also includes a limited edition commemorative Hoagie Half t-shirt and entry into the prize draw. On board? Then lock in your team here now.

Can’t come up with any comrades to accompany you on this whirlwind day of eating and sprinting around the city? No sweat! Beginning on Wednesday, August 6th, there will also be the option to sign up as a solo runner, and have the organizers create your team for you. And if you’re definitely not up for the challenge, but are down for the fun and have extra cheering energy to spare, then simply turn up, get down, and root the runners on! And stay tuned to Half Hoagie’s Instagram feed for news about spectator-only tickets (including a hoagie and beer) dropping closer to the day of the race (plus other important Hoagie Half related updates). You can also email [email protected] to inquire about volunteer and/or sponsor opportunities.
