Paella Guys are Returning to ¿CóMO? Taperia, Beginning May 25th, and We Can’t Wait!

All photos by Ruben Nava (Lessnoise Studio).

One of our favourite signs that Summer is imminent? The tantalizing sight of the Paella Guys posted out front of ¿CóMO? Taperia on Main Street, sweating over their massive (60-person) specialty steel pan.

This year’s Paella Patio series will be landing in Mount Pleasant for a total of eight Sundays, stretching throughout the summer: May 25th, June 15th, June 29th, July 6th, July 20th, August 3rd, August 17th, and August 31st. Seatings are available at 12pm, 2pm, and 4pm only (while they last). Paella is portioned for a minimum of two people, and priced at $28 per person (plus tax and 20% grats). Paella Guys’ version includes all the authentic aromatic vegetable and meaty- and seafoody-ness of the traditional Spanish Paella Mixta dish – chicken, shrimp, jumbo prawns, red peppers, onions, mushrooms, tomato – which means no mods or vegetarian option is available, unfortunately. (However, that shouldn’t deter anyone from swinging by to enjoy the spectacle and special ambience, since guests will also be available to order off of ¿CóMO?’s regular a la carte tapas, drinks and conservas menus.) And if you’ve never partaken in one of these pop-ups before, then it also bears mentioning that some patience is required, since it can take upwards of 45 minutes for the Paella Guys to work their magic. But trust us, it’s worth it!

What begin as a pandemic-friendly outdoors / takeaway operation, back in 2020, has since become an annual Vancouver tradition. Nothing captures the spirit of the season more than tucking into a big ol’ plate of paella, al fresco. It’s no wonder that, over the past five years, this pop-up has rustled up quite a bit of popularity. Ordering in advance is required. What that all chalks up to: tickets will undoubtedly be in high demand; so a bit of forethought and early action will be required in order to ensure that your summer doesn’t wind up being paella-less. Lock in your reservation HERE now. If you’re planning on turning up with your full crew, then take note that reservations for more than five people need to be made by emailing [email protected].
