Like dumplings? On Friday, August 16th, the Chinatown Night Market and Bao Bei Chinese Brasserie celebrate the classic Chinese bite-sized morsel with a Dumpling Cook Off. Come down and watch as some of Vancouver’s top chefs go head to head and battle for the title of best dumpling. Vancouverites can themselves up with a dumpling passport and enter as dumpling contestants in a Dumpling Derby. It all goes down between 7pm and 9pm in the parking lot beside the Keefer Bar. The competitors are coming from Chambar, La Mezcalaria, Wild Rice, Wildebeest, Pidgin, Cibo, Sea Monster Sushi, Harvest, and The Parker, so it’s a great and talented mix. $12 tickets/passports can be purchased here or at Bao Bei.

DUMPLING COOK OFF

Nine of Vancouver’s top chefs go up against each other to see who can make the ultimate dumpling. The only criteria? It has to be something wrapped in something. Each contestant will make 300 dumplings for a cook-off total of 2700 dumplings! These will be judged by a panel of discerning dumpling connoisseurs, but with a Dumpling Passport you can taste your way around and decide for yourself who should take the prize. There is only one trophy (designed by local artist Diane Espiritu) so there can only be one true dumpling master!

DUMPLING PASSPORT

Eat your way around the participating chef’s unique dumpling creations on Dumpling Day. Each passport costs $12 and entitles you to a tasting from each of the contestants. All proceeds go towards funding the Chinatown Night Market and helping us to continue bringing you events like this to Keefer St.!

DUMPLING DERBY

Call yourself a die-hard dumpling fan? Prove it! Sign up to be a contestant to eat as many dumplings as possible in 2 minutes. There is one category each for men and women and we’re taking 5 contestants for each. Winners from each category will be awarded $100 gift certificate to Bao Bei and the glory of being the first ever Chinatown Night Market Dumpling Eating Champion!

To enter, tweet @chinatownyvr or message us on Facebook why we should pick you as a contestant. Selected contestants will be announced Friday, August 9th. Entries close at 12:00am Tuesday August 6th.
