The GOODS from La Mezcaleria
Vancouver, BC | Kelly Ann Woods, who proudly helms the bar at La Mezcaleria on Commercial Drive, is smitten over canning, fermenting and curing. This is how and why La Mezcaleria can offer it’s own shrubs, ginger beers and tepache, a traditional alcohol from Mexico made from the flesh and rind of pineapple, then sweetened with sugar and cinnamon. In the spirit of Dia De Los Muertes (Day of the Dead), she will be making a special Tepache Cocktail this evening. The recipe is after the jump…
Homemade Tepache
Highball glass
Tajin rim
Fill with ice
1.5 oz Cabrito Bianco silver tequila
1 oz freshly squeezed lime juice
Fill with Tepache
Garnish with a pineapple leaf
Enjoy!

About La Mezcaleria
La Mezcaleria (mezcal bar) born in 2013 in the heart of east side Vancouver, as the first Mezcaleria in Canada offering the finest hand craft mezcales and cocktails coming out from different regions of Mexico. We cook our food from traditional Mexican recipes made with local, organic and sustainable products when available; our menu offers botanas (snacks) and tacos that are meant to be shared with friends and family and chased with a sip of mezcal. What Is Mezcal? Mezcal (also: Mescal or Meskal) is a spirit distilled from mash made out of the steamed hearts of various species of agaves. The word mezcal comes from the Aztec language, the Nahuatl, and means “cooked agave”: mezcalli from metl = agave, ixcalli = cooked. Historically, mezcal is the general term of agave spirits made in Mexico.
