Tableau’s Oli Bureau Does ‘The Dishes’

The Dishes asks Vancouverites to walk us through a map of their ideal day and night on the town. We’re talking breakfast, lunch, happy hour, dinner and late night cocktails. Tax and tip included.

For our latest edition of The Dishes we ask Oli Bureau, the General Manager at Coal Harbour’s Tableau Bar Bistro, to take us on personal culinary tour of Vancouver…

Good morning! What’s for breakfast/brunch?

Champagne is my beverage of choice. When I have brunch, I want Champagne with it. So I’ll visit Tableau and have a bottle of growers Champagne off the “Bubbles & Brunch” menu with my croissant eggs benny!

Where should we meet for coffee/tea?

There’s an amazing little spot in my neighbourhood called The Bakeshop, on Macdonald Street. The baker there makes the most ridiculous croissants and pastries. A little espresso on the side and voilà!

Now we’re hungry again. What’s for lunch?

I love Jinya on Robson Street for the spicy tonkatsu ramen.

Who has you figured out at Happy Hour?

I’m whiskey lover. If you can make me a proper Sazerac, especially at happy hour, I’m there! Pourhouse makes a great Sazerac and has a solid scotch egg to boot.

What’s for dinner?

Maenam is a must. Angus’s food packs in so many flavours and nuances. I love a place that has a tasting menu. If I can sit down and have chef and sommelier decide what I eat and drink, I love it! Just sit back and enjoy the experience, and Maenam never disappoints! If I’m downtown I’ll go see Pino at Cioppino’s. His paccheri with lamb ragu is the best pasta I’ve ever had! For the full indulgence, Pino will cook for you with wine pairings — always an amazing experience.

What’s for dessert?

I don’t have much of a sweet tooth, but if have a craving, I go to Thierry on Alberni to get my fix: maybe a macaron or, possibly a single, hand-made chocolate.

Where are you taking us for late night cocktails?

The Diamond always has a place in my heart. If I’m out drinking late, that’s where you’ll probably find me. Otherwise, if Rolland is on shift at Botanist, I’ll sit at his bar and enjoy some perfectly made cocktails.

Sunja Link Does The Dishes

We already know that the local clothing designer and owner of Main Street boutique and spa, Sunja Link Body Shoppe, has discerning taste when it comes to the products and items that she puts on her body. So we're unsurprised that she's equally thoughtful about what food and drink she prefers to put into it.
