Big Country

Big Country | nickname, sports | Bryant Reeves, a former basketball star from Arkansas who played all six years of his NBA career (1995-2001) for the long defunct Vancouver Grizzles after being the team’s first ever draft pick. The 7 ft. tall athlete was given the nickname ‘Big Country’ by a teammate who witnessed Reeves amazement at the size of his own country as he flew across it for the first time. Reeves was the subject of the wonderful 2018 documentary Finding Big Country by Vancouver filmmaker (and Grizzlies fan) Kat Jayme, who ended the mystery of the big man’s whereabouts by finding him living and working on his own ranch in Oklahoma.

Usage: “Until I saw the documentary I thought Big Country had either died in anonymity or had moved to a country that didn’t know basketball…”
