The Seattle Art Fair takes place this weekend from August 1-4. I’ll be visiting as it’s a great excuse to check out Seattle’s — it turns out — vibrant arts scene. Besides perusing the booths of over 100 participating local and international galleries, including Gallery Jones from Vancouver, there are special projects and performances. Those I’m hoping to catch include Bigert & Bergström’s Incubator for Earthquakes, Nadia Hironaka and Matthew Suib’s Vanitas MMXVIII, and social media sensation Bread Face, an artist whose videos consist of her smashing her face into all sorts of bread.

There are interesting arts festivals happening this weekend, and small- and large-scale exhibitions, on my list to see as well. Here are a few:

FOREVER AGAIN | A group show of small works by 17 Seattle-based artists and Yellow, an exhibition of new work by Julie Alexander, with Dalani Tanahy and Nicholas Nyland—both at Specialist Gallery.

YEHAW’ | The culminating exhibition of a year-long project featuring over 200 Indigenous creatives taking place at King Street Station, a dynamic space for arts and culture dedicated to increasing opportunities for communities of colour to create and present their work.

FESTIVAL FESTIVAL | A free, two-day arts festival, with film, performances, an art market, from 20-plus artists.

SEATTLE ART MUSEUM | Victorian Radicals: From Pre-Raphaelites to the Arts + Crafts Movement is on at the Seattle Art Museum. The exhibition brings together 150 paintings, drawings, sculptures, and objects from the renowned collection of the city of Birmingham, UK.
