by Sean Orr | Well, let the finger pointing begin. Some are blaming the Gregor (guess who) and his Celebration Sites; The National Post (sort of) blames the cops, although this time they were remarkably well behaved; some are blaming anarchists; some are blaming bandwagon jumpers; some are blaming alcohol, some are blaming the suburbs; and some are blaming the bystanders. The Straight says it is the symptom of a larger problem.
Some people were calling those attempting to ID the rioters snitches, while others were pointing fingers at the finger pointers. Some people made shirts, some people started making out, some people got sacked with a flash bomb, some people bragged about it on facebook, some joked, and some people, like your humble organ, went out and unflipped some smart cars!
The next day some helped clean up, and some wrote positive messages on the boarded up Bay windows.
But hey, it’s okay you guys, because we’re still number one! BC remains worst in Canada for child poverty. Oh, the things people did not riot about…
Postal dispute could alter HST referendum plans. Aw, that’s really quite a shame.

Good perspective, I think that Straight op-ed is the best assessment of the situation so far.
Kudos to you for proving that you’re not actually the hipster douchebag that I liked to think you were — and double-kudos to you for calling out Irwin Oostindie as the bullshit artist / self serving hypocrite that he is..
Well Jerry, that’s just it. You’ve made a lot of assumptions about me over the internet. I was always more active than so-called “hipsters”, and I doubt any of them would have ran for the Green Party or volunteered at Adbusters, the very magazine that sought to demonize them.
I don’t understand Irwin et al’s take on things at all. If the police were guilty, say as in the case of Robert Dziezanski (sp.) or other injustices, then they would be all for citizen footage. It’s not surveillance if it’s recording a crime already happening.
wow, is this like, history being made?
Jerry and Sean, hug it out bitches!! : )
Three cheers for those calling out Gregor Robertson on what was obviously an badly thought out plan. The mayor’s rose coloured glasses apparently prevented him from seeing the potenetial mayhem lurking just below the Olymoic surface. And he compounded his error by trying to sell the story that these were professional anarchists instead of what they were: regular hockey fans of a certain age. Will Gregor throw Chief Chu under the bus to save his reelection chances? Stay tuned…
