A no messing around guide to the coolest things to eat, drink and do in Vancouver and beyond. Community. Not clickbait.

Submissions to THIS Gallery’s Spring Exhibition are Now Open!

THIS Gallery – Vancouver’s “borderless art space” with an aim to highlight up-and-coming artists and bring new art collectors into the fold – is appealing to all local artists with a thing for geometric shapes, honed and well-defined edges, and vibrant colours to submit their artwork for inclusion in their upcoming “Hard Edge” exhibition.

If you think the theme (inspired by the hard-edge art movement of the 1960s) clicks with your personal creative style, you’ve got until midnight on Sunday, March 23rd to get your sh*t together and throw yourself into the mix for consideration. Use these remaining weeks of winter to hunker down and get to work in the studio before spring arrives, bringing with it all the usual seasonal symptoms of restlessness and outdoor distractions.

Two- and three-dimensional pieces produced on any surface – canvas, wood, paper, you name it! – are all welcomed, so long as they are ready to exhibit and can be dropped off at the Chinatown gallery (30E-268 Keefer Street, Lower Ground Level) by Saturday, April 12th at the latest, to be displayed in the THIS Gallery space from Friday, April 25th to Saturday, May 3rd, 2025. Also notable: Although all submissions will be considered by the exhibition’s jury members, each submitting artist is allowed only a single entry (up to four uploaded images). Those who are selected to feature in Hard Edge will be notified by the end of the month (Monday, March 31st). All included artworks will be up for grabs to the public, with funds being split 50/50 between the gallery and the artist.

Now that we’ve given you the rundown and planted the seed of inspiration, the rest is up to you to! For more details, including all important dates and the online submission form for Hard Edge, head over here. Best of luck to all who apply! We’re looking forward to seeing how it all shakes up when Hard Edge opens in the Spring.

A Neighbourhood-Wide Invitation to Wander Chinatown

When summer foot traffic slowed, a group of Chinatown businesses responded the way the best neighbourhoods often do: by working together. Their month-long Chinatown Passport is an invitation to wander, eat, drink and rediscover the neighbourhood.
