Ninjas, Accidents Take Out Phone-Addicted Samurai In Japanese Ad

(via) NTT Docomo, the top mobile phone provider in Japan, recently uploaded this not-too-serious PSA on the dangers of absent-minded cellphone usage. Entitled “Samurai Smartphone Parade”, it shows an army of soldiers escorting their feudal lord on a journey, getting picked off one-by-one on account of total tech absorption. It depicts a stat-loaded reality that’s more 21st century mall than 17th century shogunate, and yet it looks and feels like a comical Chaplin edit of a Kurosawa film. It ends with this telling (if questionable) factoid: “99% of people think walking while using a smartphone is dangerous. 73% of people have used a smartphone while walking.”
