Posada at Chupito: A Latin American Rum Tasting to Cut Through December Grey

Vancouver has a way of flattening everything into a grey, wet blur in December (and the rush of pre-holiday to-do list does not help).

A Posada (a Mexican holiday tradition centred on food, drink, music, and time spent together) cuts through the dreariness with colour and warmth, providing a short window of tropical illusion and carefree let’s-share-a-drink-and-a-laugh environment. If you need a break from the grind, a Posada is an easy place to start.

The trick, of course, is not taking on the organizing of a Posada yourself. Far better to simply arrive somewhere that has already done the work. Good news: Chupito and Rum Club are hosting their own version tomorrow night (Thursday, December 18), shaping the evening around gathering, good rum, and a sense of ceremony. It opens with a guided tasting that spans Mexico’s emerging producers through to the iconic rum regions of Central and South America, then transitions into a four-cocktail pop-up with food pairings designed for the night. The whole thing is celebratory without fuss, communal without chaos, and grounded in the traditions that make a Posada feel alive.

From Rum Club: “Whether you’re industry, a rum enthusiast, or simply curious, Rum Club is your place to learn, taste, and connect. Join us for an unforgettable night celebrating the spirits and culture of Latin America.”
