Elem is cracking open its kitchen this Wednesday, April 16th for a one-night-only ‘Four Hands Dinner’ – and it’s shaping up to be a good-looking evening.
After two decades spent in Michelin-starred kitchens across the UK, Australia, and the Middle East, and fresh off a long run at Canoe in Toronto, Chef Ron McKinlay (yes, that McKinlay) is finally back on home turf. Not only is he one of the best chefs in the country, but he’s also a Coquitlam-raised, Vancouver Community College grad – so yes, this night carries a little extra weight.
Known for working closely with local suppliers and producers, McKinlay’s cooking captures a real sense of place. It’s a thoughtful, expressive showcase of what Canadian cuisine can be when handled with precision and care. Meanwhile, Elem’s chef-owner, Vish Mayekar, has been quietly building one of the city’s more compelling (if ever-changing) menus, reworking global flavours through a fiercely local lens. The two chefs are teaming up for a collaborative evening that promises clean technique, seasonal focus, and a sense of play. As for the drinks: Cocktails by Winnie Sun and a thoughtful wine pairing by Daniel Klintworth round it all out, if you’re going all in.
The sun’s out. The kitchen’s stacked. And there’s only one shot to join this Wednesday’s five-course Four Hands Dinner. Get a seat ($225+) while you still can. TICKETS
WHY WE CARE
Sure, between McKinlay and Mayekar, there’s plenty of experience; but more importantly, there’s a shared respect for ingredients and craft. McKinlay brings razor-sharp technique and an eye for detail. Mayekar brings a style that’s confident, creative and loaded with story. Together, they’ll be turning out a five-course tasting menu that reflects both of their sensibilities. We’re expecting nothing short of mind-blowing results.
