CANUCKERY: Roberto Luongo On Who Has His Number And Facing The Blackhawks…

After the loss to Edmonton on Saturday night, Roberto Luongo – who in many local minds has been a post-season bedshitter against the Blackhawks – took to CBC’s After Hours to say he relishes the opportunity to play Chicago in the first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Good for him. While an opening tilt versus 9th place Calgary (91 points) would suit most Vancouverites just fine, there’s no getting around the fact that we deserve nothing but shame and indignity if we can’t beat Chicago, so I reckon it’s best to exorcise the demon straight away.

The match-up would be set if the post-season started today, but the show isn’t over just yet. If Calgary wins in Edmonton on Wednesday and Chicago tanks two of its last three games against Montreal, St. Louis and Detroit (very possible), then we could very well find ourselves in the rare position of deciding who we want to play in the opening round when we go up against the Flames in our final regular season game this Saturday. It would say a lot about our team’s character if we killed Alberta’s dream in order to realise what many would consider our worst nightmare.

Until then, here’s hoping we’re all on the same page for Chicago, and that back-up Cory Schneider eats his Wheaties just in case.

  1. It’s not opinion, but “in the minds” of others. I would like nothing more than a 1st round against Chicago with Louie in net.

  2. edmonton is just doing it’s usual thing fulfilling their role as “the spoilers” at the end of the season. without a prayer to to cling on to for a playoff berth for themselves, they seem to find ways to be irritating in the last couple of games.

dead last in the west. they are a terrible hockey club.

1st round vs. them with louie in net? i’d make that deal ALL DAY.

  3. By “irritating” you mean winning, twice, in a row, right?

If Vancouver loses twice to a terrible, irritating team, how will they fair against an skilled, interesting team?

Change the sheets, someone’s defecated in the bed again….

  4. while i agree that back-to-back wins are indeed an accomplishment for the Coilers (especially vs. the canucks) remember these two things:

    – this is NOT yet the playoffs
    – the Canucks typically play down to shitty teams

    p.s. your Alberta is showing

  5. Philadelphia , actually.

Best of luck to the Canucks.

P.S. Perhaps we will reconvene here in the near future 😉

  6. a squeaker (and 3 full games late) but we’ll take it to finally get by those arrogant little farts. 😉
