Ham on Ham, a new group exhibition taking over the walls of Kasko Gallery this weekend, is built around a joke that nobody tried to over-explain. Twenty-two artists, across different disciplines and styles, all responding to the concept of “ham.” Literally, metaphorically, emotionally, however they see fit.
Sometimes a bizarre concept comes with a backstory that helps explain it. Not in this case. “For the past two years we have been obsessed with the phrase ‘go ham,’ which is pretty strange,” organiser RJ Hunt explains, “and what could be better to go ham on than ham itself?”
But not every show needs to carry the weight of the world on its shoulders. In a moment where so much creative work feels either overly academic or pinned to utility, branding, or algorithmic pressure, there’s something lovely about a project willing to follow a silly idea all the way through just to see what happens. Sometimes the point is simply to gather people around a strange idea and make each other laugh a bit.
Expect paintings, mixed media work, illustration, sculpture, and probably at least a few things that resist neat categorization. Most of the work will be available for purchase, in case your home currently lacks what Yeehaw Projects describes as “the perfect piece for your Ham Cave.”
The opening reception runs May 23 from 4pm to 8pm, and based on the tone of the invite alone, this probably won’t be a stiff wine-and-whisper gallery situation. “Everyone is welcome, no narcs, and stay weird.” If you can’t make it to opening, you can catch the exhibition Monday to Friday, 10am-5pm from May 23 to June 11, 2026.
