FLIP | Learn to make traditional Chinese scallion pancakes from scratch at this hands-on UBC Farm workshop. A gluten-free option is in the mix, plus a homemade hoisin sauce, along with fresh herbs and produce pulled straight from the farm. You’ll walk away with the know-how to make crispy, flaky pancakes at home — plus a few flavour upgrades you won’t find at your usual takeout spot. Vegetarian and vegan diets welcome. DETAILS

Thu, Sept. 4th | 6–8pm | UBC Farm | $60 3461 Ross Drive MAP

FARM | Also at UBC Farm this week: Feast of Fields returns on Sunday, September 7th, filling the fields with chefs, farmers, and producers serving up the best of what is coming out of the ground right now. Guests move from tent to tent for food and drink; wander the farm as live music drifts through the air; and get a reminder of why local food matters. Proceeds support FarmFolk CityFolk’s work strengthening sustainable food systems. There is still time to score a ticket! DETAILS

Sun, Sept. 7th | 1–4pm | UBC Farm | $22.63-214.33 3461 Ross Drive MAP

HARVEST | Speaking of farms, “Day at the Farm” returns to Westham Island on Saturday, September 6th, inviting families to step into the life of a local farmer. Hosted by Delta Farmland & Wildlife Trust with Westham Island Herb Farm, this free event mixes education with fun. Think, hay-wagon rides through the fields; farm animals (chickens, goats, cows); and interactive displays on soil health, ecosystem services, and the role farmers play in the Fraser River Delta. Plus, expect a baking contest, square dancing, and plenty of fresh vegetables to bring home. DETAILS

Sat, Sept. 6th | 10am–4pm | Westham Island Herb Farm 4690 Kirkland Rd, Delta, BC V4K 3N2 MAP

BIRDS | Since you’re on Westham Island already…why not make a day of it and hit the George C. Reifel Bird Sanctuary? Located at the northern end of the island (about a 7-minute drive from the Herb Farm), Reifel is a protected habitat for migratory birds. And even if you’re not into birds, there are few prettier places in the Lower Mainland to stretch your legs and breathe in some fresh air. It’s so beautiful this time of year! DETAILS

Tues-Sun, 9am-4pm (last entry at 3pm) | George C. Reifel Bird Sanctuary | $6-8 5191 Robertson Rd, Delta, BC MAP

GIG |  Ahead of the release of their new EP, Resurrection Machine (September 12th), Boston shoegaze-rockers Magic Shoppe are sliding through Vancouver to play a gig at the Wise Hall & Lounge this Friday the 5th. These guys are described as having “a heavy shoegaze sound that flirts with the outer edges of noise rock”, that can “wash into soundscapes, or crash into a sonic maelström”. Which means this one should be dark, loud and fuzzy. They’ll be playing along with fellow shoegaze act Bloom Effect and post-punk-ers DOUR, both based in Vancouver. Chances are good that the crowd will be a sea of the black-clad. It’s a mood. And not an altogether ill-timed one, considering the weekends of summer are waning! Get into it. DETAILS

Fri, Sept. 5th | 8pm | The Wise Hall & Lounge | $25 1882 Adanac St. MAP

CHILL | How does a slinky little lounge like Meo possibly ‘up’ its cool factor? By adding a proper jazz situation, obviously. Enter the David Sikula Trio, playing from 7–9pm on Sunday, September 7th. Sure, live music can be tricky – but jazz at Meo? That makes all kinds of sense…and we’re here for it. Settle in and order a “Pillow Talk” (Sheringham Distillery Akvavit, Esquimalt Kina-Salal, pomelo pine oleo, toasted fig leaf), and you’ve got yourself a solid Sunday plan – and a pretty great way to close the weekend. No cover. DETAILS

Sun, Sept. 7th | 7-9pm | Meo Chinatown | No cover 265 East Pender St. MAP

INDULGE |  Rieslingfreak’s John Hughes lands in town on September 10th to lead a guided tasting. This one’s paired with a five-course tasting menu designed to highlight pours that run the grape through its repertoire: dry, sweet, sparkling, and even fortified. Founded in 2009, Hughes’ winery has become one of Australia’s most talked about producers, with 11 numbered bottlings that map both style and place, pulling fruit from Clare Valley, Eden Valley, and Polish Hill River. This is a rare shot to taste the grape’s full spectrum in one night, straight from the guy who’s made it. Tickets are $219. DETAILS

Wed, Sept. 10th | 5:30pm | Botanist | $219 1038 Canada Place MAP

COLOUR |  This week is your final chance to check out the A Bright Mark Left group exhibition exploring “colour as an act of resilience”, at THIS Gallery. From the organizers: “Colour as resistance feels particularly urgent in today’s cultural landscape, where artists, communities, and individuals are actively reclaiming and redefining narratives around identity, belonging, and history…Through imaginative, surreal uses of bright colour and references to cultural artifacts like science fiction, cartoons, and mythic landscapes, the works in A Bright Mark Left position colour as a portal to alternative realities, spaces of belonging, and transformation.” Featuring a trio of local artists known for their vibrant, large-scale paintings – Shannon Pawliw, Charlene Vickers, and Jean Paul Langlois – the title is a reference to the afterimage effect from staring at a colour for an extended period of time. So ready your peepers! THIS is open Friday from 1-6pm, and Saturday/Sunday from 12-5pm. (Possibly also on Thursday, as well as by appointment.) Also of note: 33 Acres is just a five-minute walk away, which is a good excuse to rest your eyes on their white walls while enjoying a post-show beer. Even better (?), they’re throwing their 12YR Sunset Alley & Patio party on Saturday, September 6th! DETAILS

Until Sun, Sept. 7th | Gallery hours | THIS Gallery (Moved) 108 East Broadway (enter through the alley) MAP
Sat, Sept. 6th | 3pm-Late | 33 Acres Brewing Co. (alley behind the brewery) 15 West 8th Ave. MAP
