From our calendar to yours comes this carefully considered agenda of cool things we are doing, wishing we could do, or conspiring to do in Vancouver from Thursday, March 6th to Wednesday, March 12th, 2025. Please note that you can now get the Scout List – with a few extra pieces of intel included – sent to your inbox every Thursday. Sign up for your subscription here.
DON’T FORGET | Don’t let the endless political circus flatten you just yet. March is that sweet spot in the calendar year where the days finally start dragging themselves out again, giving us a little hope that summer’s actually coming. And — thank god — Daylight Savings Time hits this week. Late Saturday night (or technically 2am Sunday, if you’re keeping score), the clocks jump forward, handing us a bit more daylight to spend wisely on things like sharing locally brewed beer on patios!
FOLLOW | Have you ever witnessed the menacing stream of crows (aka the ‘Crow Commute‘) cutting across the Vancouver skyline at sundown and wondered exactly where they’re headed? Well, this Friday (March 7th) you’re invited to hop on your bicycle and follow them to find out! The Still Moon Arts Society have organized their annual Crow Roost Twilight Bike Ride to follow the crows to their roost. This is a (light) rain or shine gig, so be smart and dress for the weather. (However, if the rain gets too heavy, the ride will be postponed to Sunday, March 9th). The ride itself is a one-way cycle clocking in at 3.7 km, and is 95% on separated bike lanes. To take part, meet fellow riders at Central Valley Greenway Bike Route at Garden Drive (map) at 5pm for introductions and cool crow facts. The ride departs at 5:30pm. DETAILS
REFLECT | The latest feature exhibit at Museum and Archives of North Vancouver (MONOVA), Echoes of Memory, offers a poignant and layered exploration of aging and memory loss through over 100 pieces from the museum’s collection. Visitors will encounter personal objects — from antique brushes and quilts to cherished toys — that stir collective memory. Karen Bondarchuk’s A Crow A Day illustration series adds a powerful visual tribute, while a working 1970s jukebox fills the space with sound, blending nostalgia with reflection. Visitors are also invited to share their own stories, reframing how we see aging through community connection. This show runs through Sunday, June 1st.
CELEBRATE | Need something to be stoked about? Hero’s Welcome is turning three this year, and they’re throwing a party to celebrate (naturally). Expect games, giveaways, karaoke, drink specials, tasty food, and all the good time chaos you’d want from a proper birthday bash. Friends, family, and industry folks alike are all invited for an “Appreciation Hour”, from 4-6pm, with doors open until late and no cover all night long. Plus: Minors accompanied by a parent/guardian are welcome until 8pm. RSVP
TOAST | The Keefer Bar is hosting a Tokyo Takeover this Thursday, featuring renowned bartenders Rogerio Igarashi Vaz (Bar Trench) and Hisatsugu Saito (Owl & Rooster) – both whom are flying in to share their signature techniques and flavours from two of Japan’s most respected cocktail bars. For this super special pop-up, expect precision, creativity, and a serious dose of Tokyo cocktail culture, all supported by Nikka Whisky. Reservations are recommended; walk-ins will be “first come, first served.” DETAILS
SAVE | Mount Pleasant’s legendary vegetarian burrito joint, Budgie’s Burritos, is marking 20 years of fuelling students, artists, musicians, skateboarders, and the rest of the Mount Pleasant neighbourhood with big portions, honest food, and a whole lot of character. And to celebrate, they’re rolling back the calendar to 2005 prices for one-day-only, this Saturday, March 8th. Yup, we’re talking $6 burritos, available for in-person pick-up only, with a three-burrito limit per customer. A proper throwback for the community that’s kept them going for two decades. Go Budgie’s! DETAILS
ART | This month, interdisciplinary artist Mahsa Farzi is bringing her explorations of memory, identity, and migration to THIS Gallery. Drawing on Iranian mythology and personal fragments — the kind of slippery memories that drift between knowing and not knowing — her work layers emotions, stories, and subconscious impressions into visual abstractions that blur the line between remembering and forgetting. It’s thoughtful, a bit haunting, and completely her own. Although the show will be up on THIS’s walls beginning Friday, March 7th (until Saturday the 15th), swing by the Chinatown gallery on the following Saturday afternoon, between Noon and 4pm, for the Opening Reception to meet the artist face-to-face. FIND | There is a little bit of everything coming at us weather-wise over the next week, but don’t let a few raindrops set you back! Keep your eyes peeled for sunny breaks. And, when you spot one, we recommend making the most of it by hitting the trails out at the University Endowment Lands to watch the sunlight filter through the trees, or by hustling to a patch of shoreline to do some winter beachcombing (rough waters and strong wind bring all sorts of treasures aground). Personally, this time of year we like Iona Beach: it’s quiet, and combines marsh, river, beach and breakwater.
SUPPORT | For a tasty twist on the idea of International Women’s Day 2025 (happening this Saturday, March 8th), we’ve rounded up the names of some women-owned Vancouver restaurants below. So many options! Share this list with your pals, then head out and show some support. Did we miss someone? Comment below to add them to our list.
