Katie Shapiro’s Images, Hanging Now At Gallery 295 On East 2nd Ave.

IMG_6478
A Subtle Kind of Beyond is L.A. lens-based artist Katie Shapiro’s premier solo exhibition in Vancouver. Showing now at Gallery 295 at 295 East 2nd Ave (behind The Lab), this exhibition tackles the seemingly existential question: “How do you photograph the invisible?”

Coming from a background in documentary landscape photography, Katie is concerned with capturing the aura of a landscape; the intangible quality that an environment has that we all seek to take away with us when we leave. Her series of expired polaroid film images house the energy of the objects they represent in appealing blue tinges and hues.

Encased in walnut frames, any one of these 7 images is worth acquiring. My personal favourite is #3 for above a night stand table. Sweet dreams.
