(VANCOUVER, BC) – How many bites in a tapa? Just ask Pacific Institute Of Culinary Arts’ student, Janik Livera. Janik has been chosen to represent Canada in the 1st Annual International Culinary Schools Tapas Competition taking place in Valladolid, Spain on November 9th, 2009. The competition, hosted by the Fundación de la Lengua Española (Spanish Language Foundation), will pit culinary students from Denmark, Sweden, Italy, France, Ireland, Mexico and the US against each other in a culinary battle to create the best tapa. This new student competition is being integrated into an annual national event that attracts over sixty Chefs from around the country to Valladolid every year for a week-long series of demos and competitions featuring Spanish tapas.
“I am extremely excited to have been selected to participate in this competition and represent my school and my country at an international event” says Janik, “It’s an opportunity of a life-time and a thrilling experience from which to launch my new career”.
Janik’s tapa entry was chosen first by a panel of his Chef Instructors from other entries submitted by his classmates (only two entries per school were permitted) and then by the committee at the Fundación de la Lengua Española. Janik is the only Canadian student attending the competition and will be perfecting his two- to three-bite creation over the next few weeks.
Further information regarding the competition is available on the website of the Fundación de la Lengua Española.
