Keith Nicholson, the recently departed sommelier/manager of Whistler’s Bearfoot Bistro, has joined with Joeys to open a 70 seat wine bar at Bentall 1 (the southwest corner of Pender and Burrard – main floor). It will be called The Wine Room. Nicholson says we can expect “a place that is serious about wine and serious about having fun with wine”. They have five Enotech machines with 40 labels by the glass. Chris Mills (corporate chef of Joeys) will forward a food concept of “wine-focused appys, snacks, tapas”.
Opening is scheduled for December.
Yeah, Keith. Good move. I wonder how Joey’s Wine Room will do with a list based on such great wines as Whatchamacallit (insert sarcasm here!).
They have the money to buy and source whatever they want. It’s no doubt the place will be successful not to mention beautiful. It’s a shame that much of the service is sacrificed for the ‘fun’ factor. Good luck.
