Cawston, BC | Eau Vivre Winery’s 2010 Pinot Noir was just awarded a very prestigious 2013 Lieutenant Governor’s Award for Excellence in British Columbia Wines. This is Eau Vivre Winery’s second Lieutenant Governor’s Award for their Pinot Noir in as many years.
Dale Wright, co-proprietor for Eau Vivre commented, “Winning a 2012 Lieutenant Governor’s Award last year was one of the most amazing moments in our lives. When we found out that we won a second Lieutenant Governor’s Award this year for our 2010 Pinot Noir, it was such an unexpected honour. We are delighted that our wines are being so well received To be recognized with a Lieutenant Governor’s Award alongside the 10 other amazing wineries is an incredible source of pride for our team.”
The Honourable Judith Guichon, Lieutenant Governor of BC, will visit Eau Vivre Winery on Friday, July 26th to present “The Lieutenant Governor’s Award for Excellence in British Columbia Wines”. She will be accompanied by Members of the Consular Corps of British Columbia. Local dignitaries and members of the media will also be in attendance at this prestigious award presentation.
This year was the largest competition in the 11-year history of the awards, with 402 wines submitted from 109 wineries across the province. For the full list of winners and for more information click here.
“Our 2010 Pinot Noir was produced from 100% organically grown grapes. After fermentation, this wine rested for 18 months in a blend of French and American oak barrels,” explained Wright who was the Winemaker for this vintage with the help of well-known wine consultant Steve Latchford and Assistant Winemaker Patrick Tourigny. In total, only 443 cases of the 2010 Pinot Noir were produced.
As Dale’s partner and co-owner Jeraldine Estin explained, “To help us commemorate this major milestone, we will also be hosting a public open house at our winery from 4-8pm on Friday, July 26th. Neighbours, friends and fellow wine lovers are invited to celebrate this special occasion with us. We will be doing wine tastings and there will be delicious appetizers from Chef Greg Fuchs from Gregor’s Gourmet. We’ll also have the sweet sounds of The Gala Vanters providing live entertainment. Additionally, we will have commemorative signed bottles of our 2010 Pinot Noir available for purchase. Wright added, “The Similkameen is producing some amazing grape and fruit wines and our wine region is starting to receive a tremendous amount of recognition and awards. We are honoured to work together with other Similkameen wineries to help increase awareness of our very special wine region. Together with the other wineries in the Similkameen Wineries Association, we are hosting our signature summer event on July 13th – the Similkameen BBQ King. You can try our 2010 Pinot Noir at this event along with an amazing selection of grape and fruit wines from our fellow association members.”

About Eau Vivre Winery
Our family-run boutique winery is located in Cawston, in the Heart of the Similkameen Valley. Our French-style small batch wines are lovingly hand-crafted to help you savour every sip and celebrate every moment. Our wines are clean, pure and elegant. We offer a selection of award-winning whites ranging from our smooth Chardonnay to our bright, floral Gewürztraminer. Our reds range from our earthy, complex Pinot Noir made with 100% organic grapes to our full-bodied rich Cabernet Franc, Malbec and our newest release, Buddhafull — a big, Bordeaux style blend.
Our Philosophy: We are committed to harmony and balance and use biodynamic and sustainable farming practices on our land. We are innovative and we are constantly improving our grape-growing and harvesting processes. We embraced the clay-based soils of our home vineyard by planting hearty Gewürztraminer and Riesling grapes that have been developed in Europe for these soil conditions. We were among the first in our Valley to grow Gewürztraminer and today it is one of our award-winning wines. We are passionate about bringing joy and happiness to those that enjoy our wines and take great delight in seeing people that love our wines as much as we do.
Our Greatest Honour: We opened Eau Vivre Winery in 2008 and since then, we have won a variety of BC and Canadian Wine Awards, however we are most proud of our 2009 Pinot Noir receiving a 2012 Lieutenant Governors Award for Excellence in British Columbia Wines.
Dale Wright commented, “We are absolutely thrilled and honoured to win this award. As a relative newcomer in the winemaking world, this honour shows us that we are on the right path.”
Not only was this our first Lieutenant Governor’s Award, it’s the first time in the 10-year history of the award that a winery from the Similkameen Valley has won a Lieutenant Governor’s Award. On top of that, this year’s competition was the largest ever with 347 wines submitted.
