The GOODS from 49th Parallel

Vancouver, BC | As of tomorrow, 49th Parallel’s Main Street cafe (2902 Main Street) is going to be offering something other coffee and doughnuts. They’ll be offering a toast service, which will go perfectly with their new range of teas (and yes, it’s pretty good with coffee too!)

The bread is being baked in-house from the same dough as the yeast-raised offerings from Lucky’s Doughnuts and is similar to a brioche though with a bit less butter. Doughnut bread! Offered from opening through until 11am, for $3 customers will get two slices of toast, whipped butter and a choice of three house-made jams – currently raspberry, marmalade and pineapple, but these will change. In a clear rebuke to current trends, the toast is neither gluten-free nor vegan, and it contains no bacon.

A nice complement to the toast would be one of 49th Parallel’s new line of teas. A selection of cafe favourites, including the herbal Organic Ginger and the black Earl Grey Darjeeling are now available to take home, along with some new Japanese Green teas such as the Tama Guricha & Sencha Asamushi. A number of the teas are available in the cafe each day, with a larger number available in the retail area and online at www.49thParallelRoaster.com. Prices vary depending on the tea and size of the bag.

Finally, jet-setting coffee lovers will be thrilled to get their hands on The Nomad’s Coffee Kit, now available through both the online store, and in the Main Street cafe. The kit includes a Porlex Mini-Hand Mill coffee grinder, an Aeropress and Aeropress filter papers. Just add coffee beans, and you can make top-quality coffee anywhere you have access to a regular kettle. It’s super-compact, and at $96, makes a great gift for Father’s Day (and any other occasion celebrated by coffee lovers.)
