Heads up, folks — the 22nd Annual Renfrew Ravine Moon Festival is coming up quickly… Always a beautiful and magical experience, this is one of our favourite Vancouver events!
The Main Event kicks off at 4pm on Saturday, September 21st with the Slocan Park Harvest Fair, where you will find everything from live music, face painting and vegetable vendors, to stilt walkers and dancing elves. This is also the site of your last chance to craft a lantern before the Twilight Lantern Procession! The procession leaves the park at 7pm sharp to follow a narrow pathway through the neighbourhood, eventually landing at Renfrew Ravine at nightfall. By then the ravine will be glowing with moody light from the hundreds of lanterns and light installations. Wander through the soft darkness to enjoy the spectacle and performances, and learn about salmon, rivers and ravines. Also, make sure to stop for some tea and mooncakes!
We love how the Renfrew Ravine Moon Festival brings the magic of the natural setting to an almost ethereal and transcendent place… However, be warned: it’s also hella crowded! It’s a friendly group, though, and everyone is there to trip out on the beauty of nature with you, making it a genuinely nice time.
There are also several activities to get you into the festival spirit leading up to the Main Event. Participate in guided walks, make your very own salmon lantern, and/or learn the art of mooncake making. Events are generally free (or super affordable), but space is limited, and tickets are selling out already! Check out a rundown of the schedule below before locking in your spots ASAP:
