Field Trip #582: A Summer Heat Wave Escape To The Empire City

IMG_3892

We’re blogging from New York City this week. Arrived yesterday morning for food, drink and awesome explorations besides, and damn is it ever hot out! Our current home is the supremely sweet Ace Hotel in midtown Manhattan (where Q-Tip throws down tonight). Last night was all about ramen at Momofuku, pizza at Empire and bourbon at The Breslin. Today it’s the “L” train to Brooklyn for chocolate and beer after hot pints of Stumptown coffee. The weekend sees a brief trip to Massachusetts, after which we’ll weigh anchor at a friend’s house in the Village and then we really go to town. More soon…

  1. Why on earth would one go to the armpit of America during its sweatiest month.

    Hideyosity!

  2. You have to check out Cienfuegos Rum bar & restaurant. Grab a bunch of people and order from their vast selection of rum punches. It’s way cooler than it seems. Also a tequila bar close by called Mayahuel.

  3. For cocktails we up Death & Co., Dram, PDT, Mayahuel and the bar in The Ace. Mayahuel had a phenomenal list of sherry and tequila drinks, but our favourite was Death & Co.. It reminded me a lot of home and the service was the shit. The only F&B disappointment I had was at Babbo. High expectations decidedly unmet. Based on one visit, it’s not fair to say that Cibo, La Buca, Lupo, Cioppino’s, and La Quercia are far superior, but I’ll just go ahead and say it for kicks.
