Conor Oberst And The Making Of The Mystic Valley Band…

It might take a while to stream for weak connections, but it’s a great, hour long documentary and well worth whatever wait (start downloading and then boil your kettle). It tells the tale of Conor Oberst and the formation of the Mystic Valley Band, so pretty much better than whatever’s on TV.

Guitar-tech Phil Schaffart began informally video taping Conor Oberst and the Mystic Valley Band in Tepoztlan, Mexico in January of 2008.

Over the next 12 months Schaffart, when he wasn’t tuning guitars, captured hours and hours of footage as the band traveled and performed around the world. By December the band was back in the recording studio, this time outside of El Paso, TX, making their new album “Outer South.”

Schaffart not only filmed these recording sessions but also sat down with the Mystic Valley Band for a series of interviews to discuss making music, life on the road and the year that was 2008. This 60-minute presentation is the results of his efforts.

Woot.
