Vancouver, BC | Gastown’s L’Abattoir has been awarded “Best Casual Restaurant” at the Vancouver Magazine 2012 Restaurant Awards. The award is a ringing endorsement of L’Abattoir’s commitment to serving quality cuisine in a relaxed atmosphere.

L’Abattoir’s Chef, Lee Cooper, was also recently recognized by his peers receiving a third place nod on the Best Chef list in Georgia Straight’s Golden Plate Awards behind two of Vancouver’s most awarded chefs. The accolade was noted after a team of Straight staffers polled over 100 local restaurateurs, chefs, and managers asking them to name Vancouver’s best in a variety of categories.

General Manager, Paul Grunberg, noted “Lee and I are proud to be participating in such a vibrant restaurant scene. Vancouver has so much great cuisine to offer. It is humbling to receive such praise at this time…in this city. We really want to thank our staff, family and friends for all of their support.”

The critical nods from Vancouver Magazine and The Georgia Straight come on the heels of accolades from a host of other publications, including the LA Times, GQ, Western Living, the Toronto Sun, the Globe and Mail, and the Vancouver Sun.

About L’Abattoir

L’Abattoir is located in the center of Gastown between historic Gaoler’s Mews and Blood Alley. The restaurant was built in the 19th century and is the site of Vancouver’s first jail. Originally buttressed to the city’s main butchery and meat packing district, the name L’Abattoir pays homage to the neighbourhood’s colourful past.

Set in a refurbished brick and beam building that combines classic French tile work with industrial fixtures, natural wood, and glass and steel finishes, the restaurant offers a bar and lounge setting, elevated dining room and plush, sun soaked atrium.

Chef Lee Cooper and General Manager Paul Grunberg are dedicated to highlighting the finer points of eating and drinking in L’Abattoir’s informed but informal setting.
