A Piece of Vancouver History Sparkles Once Again

Overlooking what was once Maple Tree Square, this historic space has been given a new life by owners Mark Brand, Josh Pape & Sophie Taverner.

The trio took this once temporary City Hall and transformed it into ‘The Diamond’ – a gleaming neighbourhood bistro that is one part cocktail parlour, one part secret tree house and entirely dedicated to the enjoyment of friends, music, food & drink.

The menu is inspired by their travels through the South Pacific and everything is made with local, market fresh ingredients purchased just blocks away.

Menu samples:

6 piece hand folded Sloping Hills pork gyoza – $5

Pink grapefruit, avocado & local spot prawn salad – $7

Peking duck & roast chicken Vietnamese sub with crisp Asian pear, pickled raisins, marinated carrot, soy mayo and fresh cucumber$ – 8

Fragrant lemon grass broth with glass noodles, market vegetables and fresh fish of the day – $10

As well as weekly fresh-sheet specials such as this week’s:

Togarashi and extra virgin olive oilv blackened Snapper Sandwich with pickled cabbage, shiso mayonnaise, cucumber amd cilantro – $8

The bar program is a tip of the hat to the cocktail’s classic beginnings but the full menu has evolved to include refreshing takes on some old standbys as well as boozier new versions of timeless favourites including:

Buck Buck Mule – London Dry Gin, Finov Sherry, Cucumber, Cilantro & Ginger Beer
Circa 2009 The Diamond

  1. I’ve really enjoyed the room on several visits now. What a great cocktail room with tasty small plates to match. It’s outstanding to have such great industry people running the room.
