Wine Lord Harry McWatters To Open “Local” In Summerland

oka

Who the hell gets the town Mayor to add a pull quote endorsement to a restaurant press release? Man, do I ever love how the Okanagan rolls!

Check the details on “Local”, the upcoming new and apparently regionally-focused (believe it when I see it) restaurant project in Summerland. Local wine Zeus, Harry McWatters, is involved. This is the fellow who pretty much invented the Okanagan, so it’s kind of a big deal. Opening day is scheduled for July 2009. Full press release after the leap.

“LOCAL” Press Release

image002Summerland, BC (April 30, 2009) Okanagan residents and visitors will soon have a stylish, new waterfront lounge and restaurant to enjoy. Featuring fresh, regional fare in a picturesque setting “LOCAL – lounge • grille” will open in early July next door to the Summerland Waterfront Resort and Spa on Lakeshore Drive in lower town.

Cameron Bond and his father-in-law Harry McWatters are the well-known business personas behind the much anticipated project. Last updated in 2005 the restaurant site will undergo an interior and exterior facelift that complements the inviting aesthetics of the neighbouring resort and is befitting of the quality experience the new partners plan to offer.

“We are thrilled to be putting this exciting new concept together,” noted Bond. “To us the name ‘Local’ speaks to our mandate of showcasing regional foods, wines and brews to celebrate the best that the Okanagan Valley and British Columbia have to offer.”

With Bond as operating partner guests can expect an exceptional experience – be it for drinks, appetizers and casual fare in the lounge and outdoor patio or in the dining room for a more relaxed pace and formal meal. And with Harry McWatters’ involvement (founder of Sumac Ridge Estate Winery), guests can look forward to a VQA wine list that will rival anything found in British Columbia.

LOCAL – lounge • grille is an ideal addition to the town’s culinary and lounge offerings. From casual get-togethers over lunch and dinner to special occasions and more, LOCAL will suit guests of all ages and tastes.

Summerland Mayor Janice Perrino is looking forward to the new waterfront project, “Summerland’s central Okanagan location makes it the perfect locale for an inviting, regionally-inspired restaurant for a variety of audiences. Watching Summerland’s culinary scene expand and evolve is an exciting and welcome prospect. We all wish the new owners every success!”

Expect more details closer to opening date, scheduled for early July 2009.
