Food Media Omnibus #552: On The Best Meals Of The Year & The Bacon Bloody Mary

by Claire Lassam | Presenting Scout’s weekly Food Media Omnibus, a collection of links to the local and international food stories of the day…

Pop quiz: which cookbook, when released in 1950, had sales that rivaled the Bible? The Huffington Post checks in on the best selling cookbooks of all time.

Charlie Trotter is closing down his namesake restaurant after 23 years in order to study philosophy? I guess if The New York Times says it’s true, it must be.

While I am generally a Caesar over Bloody Mary sort of a girl,  I think I could do a Bacon Bloody Mary. Find the how-to in the LA Times.

Graffiti grafting? The Georgia Straight looks at the illegal grafting of fruit trees onto ornamental trees on the streets of Frisco. Quirky, but awesome.

Van Mag revisits the best meals of 2011. The Willow’s Inn is at the top the list, and also Mia Stainsby’s, who gives it a rave review in the Vancouver Sun.

The Westender gives its predictions for the food scene in the next year. It’s filled with food carts and pizza, which isn’t so bad in my books.

The North Shore News catches up with a few of the tireless winemakers who made 2011 such a special vintage.

My idol,  David Leibovitz, makes a video about shopping through the outdoor markets of Paris, which makes me as green as a brussel sprout with envy. I am not, however, envious of his accent, so at least I have that.

If you made any New Year’s resolutions, The Kitchn is your ally in keeping them.

Lastly (blush), I wrote an article on baking with root vegetables in Edible Vancouver.
